Hi folks,
Well nearly time for bed and the journey starts tomorrow. Everything ready, but unsurprisingly I am not tired. I feel as giddy as a school kid!!!! lol
As I sit here typing I do wonder why I have wasted my life. Yes I went to university, yes I have a good job, but I should have done this a long time ago. All my life I have tried to plan my life like an experiment in a lab, pretty much like my job. However, slowly but surely I am beginning to realise that life cannot be planned, life is about living and for the moment, living for the now, because these times may never come again. Life is a journey, a journey of experiences. Sorry for being philosophical, but as I mentioned in a previous post, my life is at something of a crossroads, and I am looking for a direction. I am a ship in a storm with a broken compass!!!!!
Anyway I was reading a book recently, recommended by a person who I shall call 'Firewalker'. This book is called 'Hector and the search for happiness'
There was a great quote in the book which I shall leave you all with as I say goodnight.
'Sometimes happiness is not knowing the whole story'

Busy Weekend
Hi folks,
Its been a busy weekend, getting stuff sorted and packed. Also been brushing up on a bit of french :-D. Lets just say I am slightly rusty. Lets just hope I can order some food, otherwise I might come back like a stick, although I could do with losing a few pounds!!!!
I have a couple of things to do on Monday, but not much, so hopefully it will be a relaxing day. It will be a long day on Tuesday. I set off from Durham in the morning and get the train down to London. Then take the Eurostar across to Paris, were I will stay for two nights, and the start of my trek across Europe.
Fingers crossed the weather is good
Until the next time
Bye for now!!

Almost Time!!!
Hi Folks, I have decided to set-up this blog to record and document my experiences whilst travelling around Europe. Originally I was just going to update my facebook status with comments about my travels and upload pictures as I moved around. However, a few of my friends suggested a blog, so here we are. Hopefully, I can keep this blog updated quite frequently with pictures and stories of my journey as I have a netbook that I will be taking with me.
Right, I guess the first question is, ‘Why on Earth am I going backpacking around Europe at the age of 34, isn’t that what students do!!!!’
Well I suppose the answer is ‘yes, that is what students do’. However, I didn’t, I was too busy being far too geeky and serious at university. Lol
I come up with the idea of travelling around Europe just after New Year. I was at a bit of a crossroads, and I wanted to do something that I had never done before. Also, I had no ties, so thought this was an opportunity to do something that I might not get the chance to do again. Coupled with the fact that one of my good friends was getting married in Italy, I thought why not go for it. So here we are!!!!
The year has flown by so quickly and the start of my journey is almost upon me. On Tuesday 31st August I will be setting off from Durham to Europe via London for 18 nights. I will be visiting France, Switzerland, Austria and Italy. I will be travelling by train across Europe using an inter-rail pass. So if you are feeling bored from time to time and fancy reading my waffle then feel free to drop into my blog!!!
